Unusual Curves Give Showroom Display Whimsical Appeal
1St Place
Anthony Binns, CKD CBD of Binns Kitchen & Bath Design in Pickering, Ontario, Canada, believes in love at first sight- at least when comes to kitchen displays. For a display to really be effective, it needs to immediately grab customer’s attention- something he was clearly able to do with this curvy kitchen display. He explains, “This display stands apart from the others by entertaining a more unusual or whimsical look, [which] encourages the interest of those walking by.” To accomplish this, Binns enlisted the use of an unusual refrigerator design, which features two 60cm integrated Liebheer refrigerators and a 20cm filler between them, creating four curved doors. Binns furthered the “curve” theme through the use of a Miele hood fan with an arch bottom, chairs and stools with a bow to them, bent laminate panels on the back of the island and a rounded eating bar. Because the display faces a front window, which makes it very bright in the afternoon, Binns chose a rich cherry laminate for the SieMatic cabinetry. The surface also provides dramatic reflection under night lights. Corian countertops and Mannington laminate flooring add a feeling of richness to the display. Complementing the overall design and adding to its functionality are stainless steel appliances, including a cook top, oven and dishwasher from Miele; and a Panasonic microwave. A custom Man Of Steel sink and fittings from KWC finish out the design.
