Pinball Machine Provides Kitchen with Unique Focal Point 2ND Place

While decorative hoods or center islands are frequent focal points for a designer kitchen, Anthony S. Binns CKD CBD of the Pickering, Ontario, Canada-based Binns Designer Kitchens & Baths was treated to an unusual request when his clients asked him to design their kitchen around a pinball machine. Previously located in an unfinished garage, the clients’ Raiders of the Lost Ark arcade game had become such a hit at family functions, they decided to move it into the kitchen.
The clients also requested a stylish design with an open kitchen plan that would offer both large eating areas and a separate sitting space.

The previous kitchen design was somewhat disjointed, with two hallways, stairways and awkward
Door locations, all of which hampered traffic flow within the room. To address these problems, Binns relocated doorways, closets and the pantry, which allowed him to add a separate sitting space and a game room area. A striking stainless steel hood draws the eye while a juxtaposition of materials also adds to the kitchen’s charm. Award wood flooring and Porcelanosa ceramic tile flooring are blended with wood, DuPont Corian solid surface and Mekal stainless steel countertops, to great visual effect.

The SieMatic cabinetry is accented by stainless steel high end appliances, including a Sub-Zero refrigerator and Miele oven, cooktop and dishwasher. Mekal and Kohler sinks with KWC faucets, along with a Panasonic microwave, add functional appeal.
